Why Does Alpha House Have Rules?
Alpha House’s rules are in place to foster a safe and supportive environment where clients can experience effective personal growth. These guidelines set clear expectations, reducing ambiguity, and encouraging responsibility while also accommodating clients’ cognitive, behavioral, and physical limitations. Rather than discipline, our goal is to empower clients to develop skills for communal living, interact meaningfully, and embrace growth through challenging, transformative experiences.
Substance Prohibition
Prohibited Substances: Use or possession of any mind/mood-altering substances and drug paraphernalia is strictly forbidden. For a list of our medication policy please reference our Medication Policy Page.
Associations: Clients must avoid contact with individuals using substances or engaging in criminal activities.
Off-Limits Establishments
Prohibited Venues: Alcohol or drug establishments, strip clubs, erotic massage parlours, bathhouses, and cannabis shops are off-limits.
Medication Policy
Submission of Medications: All medications, including vitamins, must be submitted to the front office. Alcohol-based mouthwash is not allowed.
Access: Clients require staff approval to retrieve their medications.
Screening
Urine Screenings: May occur at any time, and refusal to comply will result in discharge.
Behavior Expectations
Prohibited Behavior: Glorification of drug use, violence, threats, intimidation, and divisive discussions (political or otherwise) are not permitted.
Respect and Authority: Clients must show respect to staff and fellow residents. Staff decisions are final.
Attendance
Group Participation: Attendance in all group sessions and case management appointments is mandatory.
Self-Help Meetings: Clients must attend at least two self-help meetings per week.
Curfew and Device Usage
Curfew: Set at 11:30 PM.
Device Restrictions: Personal devices are not to be used in bedrooms after 9 PM.
Prohibited Items
Personal Possessions: Pornography, dating sites, sex toys, and gambling are not allowed.
Clothing: Items promoting violence, drugs, or gang affiliation are prohibited.
Room Restrictions
Bedroom Access: Clients are not permitted in other clients’ bedrooms.
Cleanliness: Rooms must be clean and organized at all times and are subject to daily inspections.
Chores
Responsibility: Daily chores are assigned and must be completed promptly.
Food and TV
Food: Must remain on the main floor.
Television: Usage is permitted from 3 PM to 11 PM.
Language
Discriminatory Language: Any form of discriminatory language is strictly forbidden.
Finances/Money
Financial Boundaries: Lending, borrowing, selling, or buying among clients is not permitted.
