Alpha House Recovery: Our Commitment to Inclusion and Lived Experience
At Alpha House Recovery, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive, supportive, and judgment-free environment for all individuals seeking recovery. We welcome persons from all races, ethnicities, religions, creeds, and cultural backgrounds. Our program is open to men aged 18 and older, including all individuals who self-identify as male, such as trans men and non-binary individuals who align with our program structure.
We recognize that addiction does not discriminate, and neither do we. Every client is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion, receiving individualized care that addresses their unique needs.
What sets Alpha House apart is our team. Our diverse staff is made up entirely of individuals with lived experience in addiction, homelessness, trauma, incarceration, mental health challenges, and social prejudice. We don’t just teach recovery from textbooks—we teach it from experience. We have walked this path. Our team understands the real-life struggles of addiction and recovery because we have lived through:
Systemic Barriers to Recovery – Lack of access to treatment, discrimination in healthcare, and stigma in seeking help.
Mental Health Challenges – The impact of co-occurring mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other conditions that make recovery even more complex.
Social Justice & Advocacy – Firsthand experiences with inequities and the fight for fair treatment in society.
Incarceration & Reintegration – Challenges in navigating life after incarceration, accessing support, and overcoming stigma.
Employment & Housing Struggles – The difficulties of securing work and stable housing due to criminal records or past hardships.
Discrimination Against Marginalized Groups – Understanding the added challenges faced by individuals due to race, sexuality, gender identity, or socioeconomic background.
We acknowledge the historical and cultural barriers Indigenous communities face in accessing addiction treatment. Alpha House provides priority admission to individuals of Native American and Indigenous descent, recognizing the disproportionate impact of addiction and systemic oppression. Our approach integrates culturally appropriate practices and resources to support Indigenous clients in their healing journey.
Additionally, we prioritize admission for high-risk vulnerable individuals who face urgent and severe barriers to recovery. This includes:
Those at imminent risk of harm or overdose
Individuals experiencing chronic homelessness
Survivors of violence, human trafficking, or extreme social isolation
Those with mental health concurrent disorders
Individuals who face extreme discrimination or systemic barriers to care
At Alpha House, inclusion is not just a policy—it is the foundation of our mission. We believe that lived experience is a powerful tool for healing, and we are committed to providing a space where every individual is valued, respected, and given the opportunity to achieve long-term recovery.
